Madden 21 Beta Impressions
2020-08-10 00:00:00
Madden 21 had a beta session giving players the chance to try some of the game features. Beta tests are important because players have the opportunity to let the developers know what they think about the game. The developers can react and change features and, most importantly, fix bugs. Let's take a look at some of the most important feedback from the players and the developers' response.
Players have reported that the defense feels slow. Developers stated that they won't change the speed at which the defenders change the position because this is all part of new innovative gameplay that focuses on strategic planning and genuine player movement on the field. The players are encouraged to plan as opposed to relying on ratings. The area that a player can cover will increase as the player's ratings will go up.
Players didn't like how the new hurdle and truck controls felt. The developers have reverted to the previous system as players said that the new control scheme is difficult to learn. The hurdle move is on the Y or triangle button. The juke-hurdle combo is achieved with the left stick. You will do a truck move when you push the R3 or right stick button up.
The development team acknowledged the players' plea for customized controller mapping, however, this will not be part of Madden 21. Fingers crossed we will be able to change the mapping in Madden 22.
Players have identified bugs in the catching system. In some cases, the players don't do anything when the ball is thrown. The developers will make sure that this will be fixed by the launch day and the issue will still be looked into and fixed post-launch with title updates. Another concern was for the zone coverage.
The developers admitted that this feature wasn't complete yet and they are taking multiple actions to improve it by launch day. The new features of the player switching logic were removed from the game following the negative feedback. The film study ability is not part of the launch day gameplay. The plan is to introduce it with a later update. Players have reported that the fatigue penalties for scrambling quarterbacks are too harsh. The developers made some changes.
The AI-controlled pass rushes have more chances of success. The strip-sacks for quarterbacks inside the pocket have been removed. There has also been a change regarding quarterbacks' stats and the players’ response.
